The Guidance Center of Westchester (TGCW) announced today that the agency received a grant for $100,000 from Westchester Community Foundation. The grant is dedicated to TGCW’s Center for College& Careers, a program which helps ensure academic success and college preparedness to first-generation students in New Rochelle and Mount Vernon.

“Westchester Community Foundation is a long-time supporter of the Center for College & Careers. Because of their belief in our program, hundreds of students are accepted to, enrolled in and graduating from college,” says Daniel Bonnet, director of the Center for College & Careers. “The Foundation’s generosity will help ensure that the 300 students who participate in our program will have the support they need to thrive in high school and in college. We’re excited to include two new components to help improve college retention.”

This year, the grant expanded to include a persistency component, focusing on students throughout their college career. Thanks to the Westchester Community Foundation, a part-time financial aid counselor and a year-round persistency counselor will work with CCC alumni to help ensure that the students graduate college. The grant continues to provide for college preparation, academic tutoring and case management for high school students. It also covers the expense of local college tours and an over-night tour.

Westchester Community Foundation’s mission is to connect generous people to the causes they care about and invest in transformative ideas and organizations to improve lives and strengthen our community. WCF is a division of The New York Community Trust, one of the largest community foundations in the country, with assets of approximately $2.6 billion.
