Man Arrested For Punching 5-Year-Old On G Train, Police Say

Ramon Thomas was charged with assault after he punched a 5-year-old boy riding a G train with his mother last month, police said.

COBBLE HILL, NY — A man was arrested after he punched a 5-year-old in the face on a Brooklyn G train then asked the boy, "Are you going to cry to your mommy?"

Ramon Thomas, 25, was charged with assault by police on Thursday for attacking the boy, who was was riding the train with his mother last month, the NYPD said.

On March 24, the boy and his mother were on the G train when Thomas punched him in the face near the Bergen Street station, police said. Thomas then taunted the boy and ran out of the train when it stopped.

The victim had bruising and swelling to the left side of his face from the punch and was taken to NYU Langone Health Cobble Hill, where he was treated and released, authorities said.

A fellow straphanger snapped a photo of Thomas in the station but police were unable to question or arrest him for weeks because he checked into a Bronx hospital psychiatric unit days after the attack, the New York Daily News reported.

Thomas, whose address is listed as an East New York shelter, was previously arrested in February for fare evasion in a subway, police said.
