The man was found dead in the basement of 350 Henry St. on Thursday afternoon, police said.

COBBLE HILL, NY — A man was found dead in the basement of an under construction condo project at the former Long Island College Hospital site on Thursday, police said.

Officers found the unidentified man unconscious in the basement of the construction site at 350 Henry St. at about 2 p.m., the NYPD said. Emergency workers pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police do not believe the man was a worker at the site, a spokesman for the NYPD said. The construction project is completely shut off to the public and cops do not know why the man was inside, officials said.

The site was formerly the historic Polhemus Building and LICH used it as a hospital for years until they closed it down in 2008, Curbed New York reported.

Developer Fortis Property Group is currently turning 350 Henry St. into a luxury condominium building with 17-units as part of their controversial redevelopment of the site.
