I’ve always wanted to capture a few classic Manhattan Skyline shots. I’ve tried in the past from The Empire State Building Observatory, but it’s very high perspective, and detracts form the familiarity and intimacy of the buildings and streets below.
I later tried “Top of the Rock.” That’s the top of Rockefeller Center. The perspective was lower, more direct, but in early winter, the sky was overcast, grey and sterile. I tried again, 6 months later, purchasing my ticket around noon-time to ensure I’d be able to catch a setting sun on a pristine, Spring day, but by the time I was up, the sky had changed. The big-sky blue was overrun with cloud cover.
I hung around for a few hours, waiting it out, as the sky mutated from clouded to clear, day to dusk to night. Here are a few. As always, click on for larger views.
