New Library-Like Comic Store Opens In Carroll Gardens: Report
The new shop on Court Street offers a lending option to help get kids away from screens and into comic books.

CARROLL GARDENS, BROOKLYN — A new comic book store that has set up shop on Court Street is offering a new way for kids to get into comics, according to reports.
Loot, which opened last week on the second floor of 463 Court St., offers a library-like lending system that lets its customers take out as many comics as they want in a month, one comic at a time, for a $30 a month fee.
The system will let customers sample the more than 3,000-issue library at the corner location while also helping children get into the more old-school pastime, owner Joe Einhorn told the Brooklyn Paper.

“Part of it is nostalgia," Einhorn said. "This was a fun thing for people my age to do as a youngster. At the same time, we’re hoping to provide children with an alternative to highly addictive video games.”

Loot's collection will range from well-known superhero comics, to Japanese manga collections and will even eventually include comics made by the kid customers themselves.

Einhorn said he plans to host workshops that will teach kids how to write their own comics that can then be sold at the store. The kid-made comics will join the library and those who created them will get to take home 90 percent of the sales, which they can credit toward their membership.
The shop is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Adults who want to stop by should make an appointment by direct messaging the shop on its Instagram account.
“That’s playground rules,” Einhorn told the Brooklyn Paper. “This is about making a safe space for children, so we don’t want to have adults coming in by themselves whenever. It’s similar to a playground, where there are no adults without children allowed.”
The store can be found on the corner of Court Street and Luquer Street. It officially opened on July 1.
