Cops Shut Cobble Hill Streets As Armed Person Locks Self In Apt
There isn't an active shooter in a Court Street apartment building, police said, but a person with a gun had locked themselves inside.

COBBLE HILL, BROOKLYN — Police spent hours on Tuesday trying to help an emotionally disturbed person who had barricaded themselves inside a Court Street apartment building with a gun, police said.
Emergency responders first went to the 125 Court Street apartment building just before 9 a.m. for reports that someone had locked themselves in a room, officials said.
The person had locked themselves inside the apartment with a firearm and a baseball bat, but was talking to police, the chief on the scene told the public information office just after 12 p.m. Police didn't have any details about who the person was, but said they were alone in the apartment.

The incident had caused chaos earlier in the day when bystanders began posting online that there was an active shooter in the building — or even in the nearby Trader Joe's.
But the NYPD's public information Twitter account clarified that there had been no shots fired and that there is not an active shooter.
The local precinct also confirmed that reports of an active shooter are false.
Please be advised that traffic in the vicinity of Atlantic Ave & Court Street is closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic due to police activity. **There is NOT an active shooter at Trader Joe’s. This was a false report.**
