Outdoor 'Street Seats' Coming To Park Slope For Next 3 Years
The public, outdoor seating will sit outside of Sky Ice at Fifth Avenue and St. Marks Ave.
PARK SLOPE, NY — Park Slopians will have outdoor, public seating during the spring, summer and fall for the next three years.
Under the city's "Street Seats" program, the seating will be installed outside of Sky Ice at Fifth and St. Marks Aves. from March through December.
Under a proposal passed by Community Board 6's Transportation/Pubic Safety Committee on Thursday night, the seats will be back in that spot during those months for the next three years, unless Sky Ice closes or gets new ownership.

Glad @BrooklynCB6 approved Sky Ice @NYC_DOT #streetseats (like one shown below) for another three seasons. Excellent use of #publicspace. pic.twitter.com/d8JjUiGiM1

While Street Seats are public spaces, they are owned and mostly operated by a business or institution.
People sitting in the seats do not necessarily have to be customers of the business that sets them up, and money can't be exchanged on them. (So, for example, a waiter could not come out to the seats to take someone's order.)
Alcohol and smoking are not allowed on them, either.
The business is also responsible for taking the seats inside, usually at closing time, and cleaning up trash in the area.
The Department of Transportation provides signage, wheel stop bars, striping over parking lines, and temporary plastic bollards, if needed.

Note: An earlier version of this story identified the neighborhood the seats would be in as Cobble Hill. It is Park Slope.
