Photos of Motos...Classic Motorcycle Show in Brooklyn.

There is a classic motorcycle trend cruising the streets of Brooklyn.  The emphasis is on classics from the 70′s, Honda CB, Suzuki GS, Triumph, Norton, BSA, Yamaha, BMW outfitted in different styles:   Standards, UJMs, Cafe Racers, Bobbers, Choppers, often in need of labor and love to keep ‘em looking good and up and running.

It’s also just practical.  Two wheels is the best way to get around Brooklyn, from neighborhood to neighborhood, downtown to crosstown, from the waterfront in Greenpoint to the waterfront in Red Hook to the ocean waters at Coney Island.

I’ve always had an interest in them.  Maybe it’s the promise of freedom that they they innately inspire, or maybe it’s the adventure fantasy of riding solo cross country or Alaska, harnessing the open road and making acquaintance with the vast American landscape.  For now, it’s just an admiration of mine, but my interest has been intensified  by two friends, Tim and Girard.

Tim rides a 1972 Honda CB 500 four and Girard rides a 1940(!) Indian.  Two classics examples of mechanical engineering, one Japaneses the other made in America.  Their knowledge and insight has strengthened my interest and knowledge and has me thinking what could be… if I had one o’ those…

This past weekend they held their first annual event “Split’n Lanes and Dodging Gutters, A Classic Motorcycle Show,” at Brooklyn Bowl.  It was a perfect marriage.  Brooklyn’s premier rock and roll venue and classic motorcycles.  More than a hundred bikes from all over the country were on display, both scheduled to showcase as well as ridden in by attendees, lining the streets outside.   I was there to take a few snaps.  Photos below.
