Red Hook Family Searches For Missing Yorkie 'Lola'

The 6-year-old rescue is silver and tan with floppy ears and a cropped tail.

A beloved 6-year-old rescue yorkie named Lola has gone missing from its home in Red Hook, according to family members.

On Monday, May 13, owner Seth Brody was walking Lola and two other dogs in the Red Hook Houses basketball courts when one of the dogs broke free.

"She began racing out of the projects through the streets towards the Battery Tunnel," says his sister Sherry Brody, a former Carroll Gardens resident. "Seth ran as far as he could, neighborhood kids ran with him, our dad, who was in town for Mother's Day, ran as well. No one could catch Lola."

Lola was last seen running past tunnel security and the nearby toll booth operators. The family has scoured the surrounding neighborhood, "posted flyers, placed ads, tweeted, Facebooked, Craiglisted and pleaded tearfully with anyone on the streets if they had seen a beautiful 12-pound yorkie with tags running without her leash," she says.

Seth Brody is known around the neighborhood for managing the Brody Farm, a community garden located at 650 Clinton Street in the NYCHA Red Hook Public Housing. After receiving approval from the NYCHA, he transformed the unused space into a thriving organic garden filled with flowers, fruits, vegetables and herbs. The produce was then shared with any project residents that came by and asked.

When Hurricane Sandy destroyed the lot, Brody purchased produce from Carroll Gardens and "for three days he cooked tray after tray of food for the Red Hook Initiative," says his sister. "Now he needs his neighbors' help."

Lola has a microchip and multiple forms of ID. Her fur is silver and tan. She weighs 12 pounds, has floppy ears and a cropped tail.
