Beginning as early as next year, residents will be provided free high-speed Internet, reports CBS New York.

The hookup is part of a federal program called Connect Home, headed by Julian Castro, U.S. secretary of housing and urban development.

“You need access to the Internet to get your homework done,” Castro said at a press conference in the Bronx today. “You need access to the Internet later in life to apply for a job.”
