Shepherd's Pie Is On The Menu at New BoCoCa Bar and Restaurant

The Douglass, a new bar and restaurant, plans to open in September at The Sheep Station's former location.

BOCOCA, BROOKLYN — Less than a month after Australian bar and restaurant The Sheep Station shut its doors at 149 4th Ave., a new establishment is planning to open in its place.

The Douglass intends to open by Sep. 20, co-owner Peter Cavanagh said Monday, after his liquor license application was approved by the licensing committee of Community Board 6.

Cavanagh's partner in the venture is Windsor Terrace firefighter Bryan Kuhn. The two play rugby together as part of the Village Lions Rugby Football Club. Cavanagh is also a long-time friend of former Sheep Station owner Jason Crew, and said he was often involved with that business in an unofficial capacity.

The Douglass will be "simple and affordable," he said, adding that he'd "call it a gastro-pub, but that's too pretentious."

It will begin by offering an American fusion menu with quality salads, burgers, calamari, chicken wings, and shepherd's pie, he said. Craft beers will be on tap, including the work of Founders Brewing.

Cavanagh lives adjacent to the future restaurant, and told the community board that he'll be available to address any neighborhood concerns.

The establishment will feature seating for 40 inside, and will be open from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Thursday, 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday, and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Its windows will be closed at 10 p.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. on the weekends.
