Soho Spot 'Jane' Opening New Boerum Hill Outpost

BOERUM HILL, BROOKLYN — Soho restaurant Jane will open a new location at 515 Atlantic Ave. in Boerum Hill this spring. The venture, also to be called Jane, is taking over two properties previously occupied by Ganso Yaki and Sushi Ganso, which unexpectedly closed in October. Investor Harris Salat, who also owned those businesses, said the new restaurant aims to open by April, and will have a similar menu to Jane in Manhattan.

"It's going to be a really nice restaurant, a neighborhood restaurant," Salat said, adding that Jane will offer "classic American cuisine," served in, "a great place to have dinner, to have brunch, to go with your family or on a date."

At a Community Board 2 hearing on Wednesday night, an attorney for the business said that Jane will have about 29 tables with 92 seats inside, approximately 15 tables and 30 seats in a backyard space, and about 11 sidewalk tables with 22 seats.

The restaurant will initially be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m., the attorney said, and will start with lunch and dinner service before adding breakfast. About 35 or 40 employees will be hired for the business, he said.

Two neighborhood residents attended the CB 2 meeting to address past noise from the property's outdoor service area, seemingly before Ganso opened. The relevant owners at that time are not involved in Jane, Harris stressed, and the neighbors said things were better under Ganso.

"It was a horrific time before," one said. "We're glad it's over."

Harris also said at the meeting that he had signed an agreement with neighbors concerning how the backyard space would be used.
