Update On The Redesign Of Carroll Park Coming This Week
The Parks Department will give an update about its plan to renovate the two-acre park, which it has been planning to upgrade for months.

CARROLL GARDENS, BROOKLYN — New details will be unveiled this week about an upgrade to Carroll Park that has been months in the making.
The city's Parks Department is scheduled to give an update on the Carroll Park redesign to Community Board 6's Parks/Recreation/Environmental Protection Committee during their meeting on Wednesday, the first since they revealed proposals for the two-acre park in September.
The presentation will be the first item on the agenda for the meeting, which will be held in P.s. 58's auditorium at 6:30 p.m.

It follows months of gathering community feedback about the park, which was first built in the 1840s.
Parks officials told the community board a few months ago that residents they have spoken to most wanted an expanded play area, more public seating, a dedicated performance space and an improved connection to Carroll Park's surrounding streets and P.S. 58., which neighbors the park.

The residents also told parks officials they wanted to preserve the existing trees in the park and provide open green spaces, according to the September presentation.
So far parks officials have taken this feedback and proposed expanding the playgrounds so that they are consolidated with the existing asphalt play area, installing synthetic turf, creating seating areas and an adult fitness section and renovating the community building.
Their plan would include four phases, working from the back section on Court Street toward Smith Street and completing the community building renovation last.
Right now, Carroll Park includes an asphalt yard with basketball rims, a baseball or kickball diamond, a spray shower for younger kids and a shady area with public bathrooms and seating, according to the parks website.
