Vacant Lot On Smith St. Continues To Languish
The corner of Douglass and Smith streets has suffered since 2008.

The long empty lot at 232-240 Smith Street is beginning to bloom again with weeds and grasses.
At one point last summer, the plants grew so high they towered above the plywood fence separating the lot from the sidewalk.
Around the same time, it was reported that owners Claire Palermo and her son Vincent Barbuto planned to sell the lot to a bank. But in the nearly 12 months since, the 5,000-foot property has continued to lay fallow.
Attempts to reach the owners for comment yielded no response.
