Van Horn's Fried Chicken Sandwich

My first bite of the fried chicken sandwich at introduced me to texture, not flavor. The chicken was soft and moist, the bun was airy and chewy and the fried exterior very crunchy. I liked all of those qualities.

But with all of that tactile pleasure, I couldn't help but think, "Where's the taste?"

The bun with sesame seeds was delicious, but the chicken mild. It was the base of the sandwich rather than, well, the meat...

But after a few bites I started to appreciate the mild-mannered chicken breast. It wasn't all dressed up in seasoning, it was just a nice, humanely-raised piece of poultry. Combined with "zesty" coleslaw on the sandwich, I almost felt healthy eating this fried chicken. And I know how that sounds!
