Welsh Restaurant To Close In Carroll Gardens Next Month: Owners
Sunken Hundred, which opened in 2016 on Smith Street, will close up shop next month because it wasn't profitable, owners said.

CARROLL GARDENS, NY — A Welsh gastropub that received rave reviews when it opened will close its doors next month because it wasn't profitable, owners announced.
Sunken Hundred plans to serve up their last Welsh-inspired meals from their 276 Smith St. storefront on March 3 after nearly two years in business, Pardon Me for Asking first reported.
"We’ve worked so hard over the last two years to bring a taste of Wales to New York, and the incredible reception our little bar in Brooklyn received was as unexpected as it was overwhelming," the owners wrote in a Facebook post announcing the closure.

"Unfortunately, despite all the great reviews and fantastic feedback from our customers, we just don’t see a realistic way to make Sunken Hundred a profitable business."
Wales natives and brothers Illtyd and Dominic Barrett first opened the Smith Street restaurant in 2016 serving up classic Welsh food like lamb pastries, imported seaweed and braised leeks. The food got rave reviews including three stars from Eater's Robert Sietsema.
