Attention, grey thumbs. If you've been ogling the lush greens in city parks but are short on time and gardening skills, a handful of low-maintenance plants exist which may suit your lifestyle.
We asked a Boerum Hill flora expert for her top three recommendations for easy indoor and outdoor plants.
"Snake plants are pretty easy, ferns are good for most types of light, tropical plants in general are really good inside and don't have to be watered as often," says Lydia Andrien, florist and co-manager at GRDN .
[Fun fact: Snake Plants are also known as "Mother-in-Law's Tongue."]
"But the Number 1 plant I would recommend for indoors are begonias because they are really colorful, come in cool colors like purple and silver, are veiny and intricate, and they don't require a lot of work."
For outdoor areas "in this heat," Andrien says that the three easiest plants to care for are succulents, lavender and mint--"it grows like a weed and will take over the entire pot!"
GRDN is located at 103 Hoyt Street and is also available for wedding arrangements.
