Car Careens Into Woods In New Year's Day Crash

The vehicle was found after it crashed into the trees off Sunrise Highway, police say.

EASTPORT, NY — A car careened into the trees off Sunrise Highway in Eastport on New Year's Day, police said.

According to Suffolk County Police, the crash took place at 7:10 a.m. when a vehicle in the eastbound lane veered into the woods west of Route 111.

Bystanders at the scene reported that a motorist escaped serious injury; while he was cut free from the vehicle he refused medical attention. Police could not confirm the extent of the driver's injuries.
