Center Moriches Man Dies, Woman Critically Injured In Crash: Cops
The crash took place in Middle Island Monday night when the driver struck a fire hydrant and a tree, police say.
CENTER MORICHES, NY — A Center Moriches man was killed and a woman was critically injured in a Middle Island crash Monday night, police said.
According to Suffolk County Police, the single-vehicle crash took place on West Barlett Road, south of East Bartlett Road, at 9:50 p.m. Jesse Ahern, 38, was driving a 2009 Honda Civic northbound when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a fire hydrant and a tree, police said.
Ahern was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Karen Schneider, 34, of Ronkonkoma, the only passenger in the vehicle, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical but stable condition, police said.
The Honda was impounded for a safety check; detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
