The town purchased the building from the Knights of Columbus in 2017, the first step in creating a recreation center that features a multipurpose athletic field, lawmakers said.

Construction began on the field soon afterward and it opened in Sept., 2017. The Moriches Bay Recreation Center will also serve as home to the Moriches Community Center, as well as a town-sponsored senior nutritional program; the space will also be available to other community groups and organizations, a release said.
