Funeral Services Set For Beloved Local Actor

MORICHES, NY — A beloved local actor and Moriches resident has passed away after battling an inoperable brain tumor.

"The love of my life, Kevin Monsell, just passed away this morning in his sleep on Sunday Dec. 30 at 1:15 a.m.," his wife Cathy wrote. "He is at peace now and is no longer suffering. His soul is free, and his spirit will always be with us. . . Kevin's now up with the with the stars and galaxies that he has always loved."

He was 57 years old.

Services will take place at Defriest-Grattan Funeral Home, located at 13805 Main Rd. in Mattituck, on Friday, Jan 4. from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, Jan. 5 at the Mattituck Presbyterian Church at 10 a.m.

In the year since he was diagnosed, friends came together to help; a GoFundMe page was created, a clothing drive was organized, and a benefit performance held.

Monsell, a Mattituck High School graduate, was a veteran performer who appeared in numerous plays throughout Long Island, most recently with Northeast Stage and North Fork Community Theatre.

On the GoFundMe page, "Kevin Monsell," his wife Cathy wrote that they had been married for almost 24 years.

"Kevin was in a very serious car accident on Nov. 22, 2017, the night before Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, Kevin's car was totaled, but really didn't sustain any visible injuries. However, after the hospital gave Kevin a CT scan to check for a concussion . . . they found a brain tumor," she wrote.
