Home, 2 Cars, Erupt In Flames During Raging House Fire

Explosions and fire were reported at the Center Moriches home at 1 a.m. Tuesday; two cars were found burning in the driveway, officials say.

CENTER MORICHES, NY — Explosions and fire erupted from a Center Moriches home early Tuesday, with two cars also burning in the driveway, officials said.

The Center Moriches Fire Department said they responded to a house fire on Inwood Rd. off Union Ave. just after 1 a.m. Tuesday; firefighters were alerted after multiple calls to 911 reported explosions and fire coming from the home, officials said.

Suffolk County Police confirmed that a call for a fire at the location came in at 1:06 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from rear of the house and the two cars engulfed in flames, officials said.

Additional help was requested to the scene from the East Moriches Fire Department, Mastic Fire Department and East Moriches Ambulance; the Manorville Fire Department was requested to stand by at the Center Moriches firehouse to cover any additional calls, officials said.

It took firefighters an hour to bring the fires under control; there were no firefighter injuries reported, officials said.

The occupant of the house was evaluated by Center Moriches Fire Department EMS personnel and refused medical treatment, officials said

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department's arson squad and the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshalls office, officials said. No cause has yet been determined, police said.
