Local Olympian Ranks 8th In Doubles Luge: 'Best Day Of Work Ever'
A first time Olympian from Eastport ranked 8th, making his hometown proud.

EASTPORT, NY — Eastport native Justin Krewson made his hometown proud Wednesday after placing eighth in doubles luge event at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.
Along with his partner Andrew Sherk, the first time Olympians runs of 46.310 and 46.342 seconds gave them a combined time of 1:32.652; they finished .955 seconds behind Germany’s Tobias Wendl and Todias Arlt, who won gold with a time of 1:31.697, according to TeamUSA.org.
"Best day of work ever!" Krewson said.

Doubles athletes have to rely completely on one another to make it down the track safely, while also being competitive, so trust and chemistry are key, the TeamUSA page said.
“With driving styles, if those things don’t line up, then it’s really difficult for the sled to get down the track,” Krewson said, in the post. “Things don’t respond correctly. It doesn’t balance right.”

According to his TeamUSA bio, it was the first go-round at the Olympics for Krewson, who has World Championship experience in 2015, 2016, 2017. He placed 6th in the 2017 Lake Placid World Cup to secure his Olympic berth, was a 2014 Norton Junior National Champion, and won silver medals in team relays at both the Junior World Championship in Igls, Austria and in the Oberhof, Germany Junior World Cup.
He is also a member of the Lake Placid Fire Department and became an Eagle Scout in August, 2014, as a member of Boy Scout Troop 221 in Manorville. He's also enrolled in the Lincoln Electric Welding School in Cleveland, OH, his bio said.
