Man Stabbed, Sliced Clerk In Attempted 7-Eleven Robbery: DA
One of the employees used a pizza cutter to cut the robber's head until he finally released the box cutter, DA says.
CENTER MORICHES, NY — A Patchogue man was sentenced Friday to 16 years to life in prison for an attempted robbery at a 7-Eleven in Center Moriches in October, 2018, Suffolk County District Attorney Tim Sini said.
Joseph Allgood, 50, was convicted by a jury on June 21, 2019 of two counts of second degree attempted robbery, a violent felony, Sini said. Due to Allgood’s criminal history, he was deemed a mandatory persistent violent felony offender by the court; he was sentenced by Suffolk County Court Judge Philip Goglas, Sini said.
At 1:57 a.m., on October 31, 2018, Allgood entered a 7-Eleven located at 632 Main Street in Center Moriches and lunged at the clerk, demanding money from the register, Sini said. When the attendant did not immediately comply with the demand, Allgood grabbed for the register and a fight ensued, Sini said.

Allgood pulled out a box cutter and began to stab and slice the clerk, Sini said.
Another employee came to the clerk's aid and Allgood began stabbing and biting both employees in an attempt to be released, Sini said. One of the employees picked up a pizza cutter and used it to cut Allgood's head until he finally released the box cutter, Sini said. During the altercation, a silent alarm was pressed, notifying the police; Allgood was arrested at the scene and all were taken to the hospital for minor injuries, Sini said.

“There is no excuse for the reckless and dangerous behavior of this individual who injured innocent members of our community,” Sini said. “I want to thank the detectives and prosecutors for their hard work. This is a significant sentence that serves justice for the victims and holds the defendant accountable for his despicable actions.”
This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Dennis Ryan, of the Major Crime Bureau.
