Sheriff's Vehicle Bursts Into 'Fireball': Video

EAST MORICHES, NY — A Suffolk County Sheriff's Office vehicle burst into a "fireball' Friday, according to witnesses at the scene.

Suffolk County Police said they responded to a report of a vehicle fire at 3:51 p.m. on Friday in the westbound lane of Sunrise Highway in East Moriches.

The East Moriches Fire Department and the Suffolk County Fire Marshal responded to the scene; the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office took over the investigation, police said.

The roadway, which had been closed, was reopened at 4:30 p.m., police said.

No injuries were reported.
