Tractor Trailer Strikes LIRR Overpass

The tractor trailer was wedged under the overpass, fire department officials say.

CENTER MORICHES, NY — A tractor trailer struck a Long Island Rail Road overpass in Center Moriches Thursday.

According to the Center Moriches Fire Department, a call came in at 7:24 p.m.; Center Moriches firefighters and EMTs were requested to the LIRR overpass at Montauk Hwy. and Wilcox Ave. after 911 received calls for a tractor trailer that had struck the overpass with unknown injuries, fire officials said.

Emergency personnel arrived and found the trailer portion of the truck wedged under the overpass; the driver of the truck was not injured, fire officials said.

Suffolk County Police detoured traffic around the area while crews worked to remove the truck; firefighters were back in service within 15 minutes, the fire department said.
