Woman, 78, Dies After Being Hit By Truck Near Farm Stand

The crash occurred Monday afternoon; the box truck also hit the farm stand owner, Suffolk Police say.

EASTPORT, NY — A Queens woman was killed Monday when she was hit by a box truck while standing in front of a farm stand in Eastport, police said.

According to Suffolk County Police, the crash took place at 3 p.m. on County Road 111, about a quarter mile north of Sunrise Highway. Judith DiLorenzo, 78, was standing in front of a farm stand when a 2011 Freightliner box truck driven by Fredrick Rensing, 43, of Middle Island struck her — the truck also hit the farm stand operator, Brian Ringhoff, 58, of East Moriches, and slammed into the farm stand, police said.

DiLorenzo, of Whitestone, was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Ringhoff refused medical attention; Rensing was not injured, police said.

No charges were filed, police said.

The motor carrier safety section performed a safety check at the scene, police said..
