Central Park Cyclist Dies After Month-Long Stay in Hospital

The woman, visiting from Texas, died on Wednesday after falling off her bike on July 17.

CENTRAL PARK, NY — A Texas woman who was visiting Central Park died on Wednesday a month after she was injured in a bike accident.

Police said Gloria Garcia, 54, from Corpus Christi, Texas, died from a head injury after staying in New York Presbyterian Hospital since July 17. Police responded to a 911 call at 2:10 p.m. about the accident, in which the woman fell off her bike near West Drive and West 80th Street.

Police are still investigating whether anyone else was involved in the accident.

Her death came on the same day a Central Park cyclist ended up in critical condition after he struck his head on the pavement during a crash. Police are still investigating that incident as well, though they believe the man swerved to avoid hitting a pedestrian.
