Central Park Five Member Blasts Donald Trump in Washington Post Op-Ed
"For 27 years, I've been in Donald Trump's crosshairs," Yusef Salaam wrote in an op-ed published Wednesday, Oct 12.
CENTRAL PARK, NY — Yusef Salaam was 15-years-old when Donald Trump called for his blood, and the blood of four other teenagers wrongfully accused for a brutal 1989 rape of a jogger in Central Park.
Salaam and the other members of the Central Park Five were exonerated by DNA evidence and a confession from the real rapist, but Trump insisted they were guilty just last week.
In response, Salaam penned an op-ed in the Washington Post to speak out against the Republican candidate for president and to illustrate the affect that his conviction has had on his life.

"During our trial, it seemed like every New Yorker had an opinion. But no one took it further than Trump. He called for blood in the most public way possible. Trump used his money to take out full-page ads in all of the city’s major newspapers, urging the reinstatement of the death penalty in New York. I don’t know why the future Republican nominee bought those ads, but it seems part and parcel with his racist attitudes," Salaam wrote in his op-ed.
