CENTRAL PARK, NY — This year's Global Citizen Festival in Central Park is expected to draw 60,000 fans to see some of the biggest names in music, festival organizers announced Tuesday. Organizers revealed the festival's lineup today, which will be headlined by legendary acts Stevie Wonder and Green Day.
Also performing at the Sept. 23 festival will be The Killers, The Lumineers, The Chainsmokers, Pharrell Williams, Big Sean and more artists to be announced, the Global Citizen Festival organizers announced in a news release. The annual festival — which will visit New York City for the sixth straight year — is held to advocate for the end of poverty and the world's inequalities by 2030.
“In this crucial time, there is nothing more exciting to me than having the honor of giving my gift of song, words and motivation to the Global Citizen Festival," Stevie Wonder said in a statement. "When we commit ourselves to life issues, we are showing love of the Most High. I was, I am and will always be, a citizen connected to the spirit of everyone on this planet moving forward. Let’s go!”

The festival is different in that concertgoers will need to win — not buy — their tickets by performing good deeds to advance Global Citizen's mission to end poverty. This year all of the "actions," which get people points toward tickets, will be hosted on Global Citizen's mobile app.
Once a person earns a certain amounts of points through the app they will be entered into a lottery to win two free tickets to the Global Citizen Festival.

"Over the last year, we've seen voters around the world reject the nationalism and isolationism that keeps people living in extreme poverty," Global Citizen founder and CEO Hugh Evans said in a statement. "Now, we are calling on activists and music fans to use their voice to change the world. … Now more than ever, we need to ensure we work together for the world’s poor."
