Meet The 3-Block 'Neighborhood' Bordering Central Park

Can three blocks make a neighborhood? Check out why Central Park Residents think size doesn't matter.

CENTRAL PARK, NY — Central Park South — the three-block stretch made up of mainly luxury condos, glamorous hotel rooms and high-end stores — has been classified a "neighborhood" by the New York Times real estate section.

Bordered by Columbus Circle on the west and The Plaza Hotel on the East, most New Yorkers may view the area as just a place to catch a seemingly endless amount of Pedicabs, or bump into tourists visiting the park. But it turns out Central Park South actually may be a nice place to live, according to 61-year-old resident Daniel Kaplan.

Kaplan was drawn to the area because he enjoyed the Central Park views from his Central Park South doctor's office, he told the New York Times.

“It’s a soothing view" Kaplan told the Times "With each changing season, the park has a different coat.”

In 1994, Kaplan bought a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment for $750,000 in a building that now commands millions for its units, he told the Times. A number of hotel to condo conversions on the three-block stretch have turned the area from "hotel row" to "micro-neighborhood" a real estate broker told the times.
