New Castle, Westchester and Summit Greenfield Together on Affordable Housing in Readers Digest Landmark
Reusing the cupola building has a lot of advantages for Chappaqua Crossing, the town and the county.

Summit Greenfield, the developers of Chappaqua Crossing is expected to submit a proposal soon to the New Castle Town Board to use the part of the cupola building on the old Readers Digest property for affordable housing,
“Personally, I am excited about this proposal and look forward to learning more about it,” Town Supervisor Rob Greenstein wrote to residents. “Reusing the cupola building appears to be an excellent approach and presents an opportunity to facilitate the construction of affordable housing in our community that we all can be proud of!”
According to Greenstein, Westchester County Deputy Commissioner of Planning Norma Drummond supports the plan and believes the cupola building could serve as a good example of affordable housing solutions for other communities.

Using the cupola building would not increase the number of bedrooms designed for Chappaqua Crossing on the residential side—244 were approved by the Town Board in 2011—but instead of townhouses and multistory buildings, the all the new construction would be for 91 townhouses.
“Among other advantages, Summit Greenfield told the Town Board that adaptively reusing the cupola building for residential purposes would better integrate the approved residential and retail uses on the site, and would allow the units to be constructed sooner than might otherwise be possible,” Greenstein said.
