Affordable Art Fair Comes To Chelsea

Artwork at the fair starts at $100.

CHELSEA, NY — The Affordable Art Fair returns to New York City this week, opening its exhibition in Chelsea with artworks starting at $100.

The traveling art fair first began in London in 1999, with the plan to provide a space for art lovers to buy accessible art at a lower price point than you'd find in a traditional gallery. Since then, the Affordable Art Fair has grown, and now travels throughout Europe and Asia, plus regular stops in New York City.

"In 1996, I opened the doors to Will’s Art Warehouse showcasing works priced between £50 – £2,500, from a pool of over 150 relatively unknown artists. Prices were clearly displayed and we were always on hand to give customers more information. Everyone loved the relaxed atmosphere in which they were free to take their time browsing the work – and that is what inspired the idea for the Affordable Art Fair," founder and CEO of the art fair Will Ramsay explained in a statement. "Over the years, each fair has developed its own distinct character and offers a diverse range to suit all tastes, styles and wallets. What remains constant is the emphasis on accessibility, education and innovation, to ensure a fun day out surrounded by great art is had by all!"

This year, the Affordable Art Fair is setting up shop at the Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 W. 18th St., where it will run from Wednesday through Sunday.

Artwork at the fair starts at $100, but can cost up to $10,000, with most of the works falling somewhere in between. The gallerists at the fair make a point to be accommodating to potential buyers, to provide a more welcoming experience than some of the more high-end galleries nearby in Chelsea.
