Artichoke Pizza Owner Opens New Detroit-Style Joint
Lions and Tigers and Squares, which serves Detroit's famous rectangular pizzas, is now open in Chelsea.

CHELSEA, NY — A co-owner of the popular NYC pizza chain Artichoke Pizza has opened a new pizza parlor in Chelsea that serves Detroit-style pizza.
Lions and Tigers and Squares, located at 268 W. 23rd St., opened in May. The name is a nod to the shape of the pizza (which, technically, is rectangular), and also to Detroit's Major League Baseball team.
Artichoke Pizza co-owner Francis Garcia is behind the new pizza spot, trading in the creamy artichoke slice that made his original chain famous for the crispy, rectangular pies of Detroit fame. Detroit-style pizzas are made in rectangular pans, with a thick, crispy and cheesy crust all the way around the pizza.

Like Artichoke Pizza's original location in the East Village, Lions and Tigers and Squares has limited space for eating in, making it mostly a take-out restaurant.
