BREAKING: Cyclist Hit In Chelsea Crosswalk

Dozens of pedestrians rushed to help a cyclist hit by a car at 6th Avenue and 23rd Street on Tuesday night.

CHELSEA, NY — A male cyclist was hit by the driver of a black Toyota Camry in the crosswalk at 23rd Street and 6th Avenue around 6 p.m. Tuesday night, partially blocking the street to traffic and drawing a crowd of dozens of pedestrians who gathered around the cyclist, trying to determine if he was okay.

The Camry driver stayed at the scene. He watched, hoodie drawn tight around his head, as emergency responders loaded the cyclist into an ambulance.

Fire department officials were "on scene investigating a report of a cyclist hit" around 6:05 p.m., a spokesman told Patch. Information on the cyclist's condition was not immediately available.

The intersection of 23rd and 6th had been reopened by 6:30 p.m.
