East One Coffee Roasters is opening another location in Chelsea.

CHELSEA, NY — Carroll Gardens coffee shop and eatery is opening a new location in Chelsea this weekend.

East One Coffee Roasters is opening a new cafe at 170 West 23rd St. at Seventh Ave. — its third location in New York City — Saturday, July 13.

The LGBT-owned East One was founded by Tom Cummings and his husband Morten Tjelum, as well as their business partner Dale Strickland, in 2017. The coffee shop's Brooklyn location in Carroll Gardens was quickly named among the city's best by Grub Street and Eater. It also has a small location on the Lower East Side.

The coffee team includes Selina Ullrich, coffee director and Emily Wendorff, production roaster, who are paving the way for diversity on the production side of the coffee industry as queer black women.

The all-day cafe will serve up dishes including rice porridge with shredded chicken, burrata bruschetta, among other plates and baked goods. Will Ono, previously of Chez Moi, is the executive chef.

Throughout the months of July and August, East One will display a photo exhibit by Donna Aceto, longtime photojournalist for Gay City News, of the history of the gay rights movement with photos from the last 25+ years. Photos will be on sale with some of the proceeds donated towards Gays Against Guns.

The cafe will have 40 seats and 1,700-square-feet of space. Its hours will be every day, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Later hours, until 11 p.m., are expected soon after opening day.
