Nearly 80 firefighters battled the high-rise fire for half an hour, between 11:30 a.m. and noon, before it was declared "under control," an FDNY spokesman said. (For more local news stories that affect you, sign up for Patch's free email newsletters and news alerts for your NYC neighborhood.)

NYC's first Hyatt House — whose 150 suites were designed especially for extended-stay guests — just opened for business a few weeks ago at 815 6th Ave. "This dynamic hotel aligns itself seamlessly with the vibrancy of Chelsea," the CEO of the hotel's parent company said in a statement at the time. "The location, within close proximity to historic landmarks like the Empire State Building, transportation hubs of Grand Central Terminal and Penn Station, and attractions like Madison Square Garden, makes the hotel an ideal location for travelers coming to Manhattan for business or pleasure."
