Drake Invests In NYC-Based Matcha Company

CHELSEA, NY — The superstar Drake is investing in a New York City-based matcha drink company, the business announced this week.

MatchaBar, which opened its first storefront in Brooklyn but now operates a store out of Chelsea, is partnering with Whole Foods to expand the reach of their matcha drinks, and Drake is joining in.

"We feel Drake not only embodies the entrepreneurial spirit of our brand, but also our company's ethos 'good things come to those who hustle," MatchaBar co-founder Graham Fortgang said in a statement, according to Food and Wine magazine.

Matcha is a powdered green tea that can supposedly increase the drinker's focus and energy, according to MatchaBar. Matcha-based drinks have soared in popularity throughout the U.S. in recent years. The Chelsea storefront is located at 256 W 15th Street. The company also has a brick-and-mortar location in Los Angeles, with plans to open additional shops in the near future.
