Eataly's New Plaza Kiosks Closed For Not Having A Sink, Bathroom
Eataly's outdoor kiosks were closed by health inspectors, records show.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this article stated that Eataly's Flatiron District food emporium had been closed by health inspectors this week. It was later revealed that health inspectors had closed plaza kiosks outside of the Flatiron outpost. Violation points were issued for the outdoor kiosks, not the food emporium itself.
FLATIRON DISTRICT, NY — Ciao, Eataly. Health inspectors had to close Eataly's recently launched kiosks at its Flatiron location due to a sink issue — slapping it with 94 violation points Tuesday, public records show.
The Health Department records show there were no facilities to wash, rinse or sanitize utensils or equipment and no toilet for employees or customers where required at the food emporium's new gelato and pizza spots in a Flatiron plaza.

Eataly did not have hand-washing facilities near the food preparation area or toilet, and soap and a hand-drying device was not provided, records show.
The Health Department also found food was from an "unapproved or unknown source or home canned," inspection information says.

All violations were listed as "critical," according to the Health Department.
The eateries near Madison Square Park also racked up 84 violation points August 19, records show. That day, Eataly had the same toilet and hand-washing facility issues.
"Eataly Flatiron is not closed, a sidewalk kiosk outside of our Flatiron location has been closed as we work with the Department of Health to correct an infrastructure issue concerning a sink," spokesperson for the company Chris Giglio said. "We believe this will be corrected quickly."
The 50,000-square-foot Italian food market opened in the Flatiron District nearly a decade ago. It also has a Lower Manhattan location, as well as Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, with outposts in Dallas and Toronto opening soon.
