Garden Of Eden Grocery Store Closes In Chelsea

The longtime Chelsea grocery store Garden of Eden has closed its doors.

CHELSEA, NY — The longtime neighborhood grocery store Garden of Eden is closing its doors of 23 years in business, the latest in a string of independent grocers who have closed shop in NYC.

The grocery store, located on 23rd Street, closed last week, NBC New York was first to report. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

The mini-chain also has locations on the Upper West Side and Union Square, both of which remain open. The gourmet market previously operated six different locations through the city, four of which are now closed. Last year, the market's parent company filed for bankruptcy protection in Manhattan federal court amid a "historic lack of patronage," the New York Post reported.
