Group Attacks Sleeping Man In Chelsea, Cops Say
Cops are searching for six people who attacked a man sleeping outside in Chelsea, police said.
CHELSEA, NY — A group of six people attacked a man while he was sleeping outside in Chelsea, police said.
Four men and two women attacked the 52-year-old man while he slept on Ninth Avenue between 14th and 15th streets Aug. 21 about 3 a.m., police said.
The group beat him on the head and body with canes and a glass bottle, according to police.

Police said a 22-year-old man walking by tried to stop the attackers — then they began hitting him with canes and threw him on the ground.
The attackers snatched the 52-year-old's wallet and bicycle as well as the 22-year-old's cell phone and belt pack, police said.

Police said emergency medical personnel took the younger man to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition, and the 52-year-old was treated outside of the building where he was attacked at 61 Ninth Ave.
Cops are searching for four men and two women, which surveillance footage shows walking in a group.
Two men were wearing all black, another man was wearing a white du-rag and black pants and sneakers, and the fourth man had a pony tail with black and red shorts, images released by police show. One woman was wearing a blue shirt and black pants and sneakers and the other woman was wearing a pink dress and gray sneakers carrying a cane, the images show.
They ran off southbound on Ninth Avenue after the attack, police said.
