Ira Glass Sued by Condo Board for Allowing Spread of Bed Bugs and Rats
The condo board of the "This American Life" host's Chelsea apartment filed suit saying he refused to let management exterminate.
CHELSEA, NY — Ira Glass, host of the popular radio series "This American Life," is being sued along with his wife, writer and editor Anaheed Alani, by the condo board of their Chelsea apartment for letting bed bugs and rats infest the building, the New York Post reported.
The condo board is suing to gain access to the couple's apartment because it said they wouldn't let building management in to exterminate for spreading bed bugs and rats, according to court records. Management said the pest problem in their building at 159 W. 24th St. started in June.
The condo board alleged that the "unsanitary conditions" the couple left in their apartment actually led to the rat problem. Some people living in the building have had to evacuate over the past few months because the pest infestation was unlivable, management detailed in the court documents.

Glass told the Post the couple had already "paid a bunch of money for exterminators" and taken care of the problem.
"My understanding is another apartment in the building has bed bugs," Glass told The Post.

The complaint, filed Thursday in the Manhattan Supreme Court, also says the couple let several broken appliances stay broken, including an air conditioning unit, dishwasher and washing machine. The management said the broken appliances caused water to leak into other apartment units, causing damage.
