John Kekalos, NYC Chef, Found Dead at His Chelsea Apartment

Kekalos was 51 years old. He was discovered dead by his housekeeper, according to police.

CHELSEA, NY — John Anthony Kekalos, a 51 year-old chef, was found dead Monday afternoon at his Chelsea apartment at 105 West 29th St., near the border with Midtown, according to the NYPD.

Police said they arrived to the apartment around 12:16 p.m. after responding to a 911 call from his housekeeper. There, they discovered Kekalos unconscious and unresponsive on the floor of his home. Emergency responders with the FDNY also arrived at the scene, and pronounced him dead soon after.

Kekalos was a longtime chef on the NYC bar scene. He previously worked at Heartland Brewery, Dorrian's Red Hand and the now-defunct The Falls (which he also co-owned), as well as Bookbinders in Philadelphia.

Kekalos' cause of death is still to be determined. The police investigation is ongoing.
