LA-Based Artist To Present Digital Art Exhibit At Chelsea Market

A Los Angeles-based artist will bring a digital art exhibition utilizing artificial intelligence to Chelsea Market this summer.

CHELSEA, NY — A digital art exhibition by Los Angeles-based artist Refik Anadol will present an exhibition using artificial intelligence to display more than three million images.

The digital art presenter, ARTECHOUSE, will present the exhibit, 'Machine Hallucination,' is coming to Chelsea Market's boiler room — below the market's main concourse — this August.

"By employing machine intelligence to help narrate the hybrid relationship between architecture and our perception of time and space, 'Machine Hallucination' offers the audience a glimpse into the future of architecture itself," Anadol said.

The century-old boiler room will be re-created to display the digital exhibition.

It will be Anadol's first large-scale solo exhibition in New York and his first in New York to use artificial intelligence, which will be presented in collaboration with ARTECHOUSE, a company that curates exhibits at the intersection of art and technology.

The co-founders announced they were coming to Chelsea late last year.

"Bringing ARTECHOUSE to New York was a clear next step for our mission," Sandro Kereselidze, founder and art director of ARTECHOUSE, said. "Utilizing Chelsea Market’s hub within the storied art-centric neighborhood of Chelsea, we’re looking to bring a new kind of art experience to New York. Refik Anadol’s boundary-pushing concepts are in line with ARTECHOUSE’s commitment to expand what is possible in an art exhibition and experience environment."

ARTECHOUSE has presented technology and art exhibitions in Washington D.C., Albuquerque and Miami, attracting more than 350,000 people, the company says.

'Machine Hallucination' will open at Chelsea Market this September. Prices are still to-be-determined.
