Corey Johnson is re-elected as the District 3 representative in City Council.

CHELSEA, NY — Council Member Corey Johnson has been re-elected to another term representing District 3 in City Council, according to preliminary vote tallies from Tuesday night's general election.

WNYC called the race for Johnson just before 10 p.m. on Tuesday with Johnson garnering a whopping 95 percent of the vote with the majority of precincts reporting. Johnson represents neighborhoods on the West Side of Manhattan from Greenwich Village to the Upper West Side. He was first elected in 2013, and is rumored to be weighing a bid for Speaker of the City Council in his second term.

Johnson defeated Marni Halasa, who was running as a nominee of the Eco Justice party. Halasa, a political novice, got just over 1,000 votes on Tuesday, according to preliminary vote tallies.
