Street Trees, NYCHA Lighting Get Funds In Participatory Budgeting
Here's the three projects that City Council Speaker Corey Johnson's district voted for in this year's participatory budgeting cycle.
CHELSEA, NY — Three projects in City Council Speaker Corey Johnson's district got city funding through the participatory budgeting process in District 3 — which covers Manhattan's west side from the West Village through Hell's Kitchen.
The City Council's participatory budgeting process gave District 3 residents the chance to vote for how about $1 million in city funds would be allocated.
Twelve projects were on the ballot in Johnson's district. Three of them got funding from this year's participatory budgeting cycle.

Street tree protection package

Cost: $200,000
Location: District-wide
Project: Tree guard, watering tree-gator and informative care tag for all street trees planted since 2017.
Improved lighting for parks in New York City Housing Authority developments
Cost: $600,000
Location: NYCHA Elliott-Chelsea and Fulton Houses
Project: Improve lighting in park areas at Elliott-Chelsea and Fulton Houses.
Upgraded water fountains for public schools
Cost: $300,000
Location: District-wide
Project: Install 35 new water bottle refill stations in public schools throughout District 3
