Taco Bell Plans 'Boozy' Location In Chelsea

Taco Bell is planning a new "Cantina" outpost in Chelsea, which will serve beer, alcohol and boozy slushies.

CHELSEA, NY — Taco Bell is planning to open one of its new boozy "Cantina" locations in Chelsea, according to paperwork filed with Community Board 4.

The national taco chain has begun serving booze in some of its restaurants, and has also been expanding its "cantina" concept. In addition to Taco Bell's standard fare, the cantinas serve margaritas, beer, wine and boozy slushies.

The chain wants to open its newest boozy location in Chelsea at 224 Seventh Ave., according to a liquor license application filed with Community Board 4. The location previously housed a Radio Shack.

The cantina's operators say the restaurant can seat 48 people, and plan for it to be open from 7 a.m. until 3 a.m. on Sundays through Thursdays, and until 4 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Other cantina's have opened elsewhere in New York City, offering fast-food plus late-night booze. There's a location near NYU in the West Village as well as one in Bed-Stuy, according to the company. Taco Bell is planning on adding hundreds more cantinas throughout the U.S. over the next several years.
