Westboro Baptist Church Protests End of Vine Outside Twitter Headquarters

"In Christ, we doggedly persisted, and Christ gave us 13,000+ followers and 45.7 million loops."

CHELSEA, NY — The Westboro Baptist Church isn't a fan of very many establishments, but it apparently really took a liking to Vine. The extremist group organized a protest outside Twitter headquarters in Chelsea Thursday morning against the end of Vine. Because, as it turns out, they were sort of very popular on the 6-second video platform that was created and recently nixed by Twitter.

"Westboro Baptist Church members were early-adopters in the life of Vine," the group's statement said. "In Christ, we doggedly persisted, and Christ gave us 13,000+ followers and 45.7 million loops (that's just one of several accounts)."

"Totally vining our picket of @vineapp HQ! It only takes 6.5 seconds to warn your neighbor to REPENT, like Jesus said!" reads one of the captions of a Vine of their petition outside the Vine office.

The story gets weirder. The group wrote a parody of "I Saw The Sign" by Ace of Base and called it "I Learned To Vine." They posted the audio online.

Here's the rest of their statement lamenting the death of the video platform:

And so, with heavy boots and sad hearts, we do not look forward to the end of Vine. Alas, it was so young with so much promise. So we preach Christ @Vine's funeral! Why? Because we both dread for your sake, AND love for the Gospel's sake, the coming day when preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ is no more:
"Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:" Amos 8:11.
We plead with Twitter to be good stewards of its resources and sustain Vine, to carry on the primary purpose for which God established Vine, to wit: to allow Bible truth to be dispersed thereby.

Twitter did not immediately respond to request for comment.
