4 Tornadoes Confirmed In New York Tuesday
Tuesday's wild weather spawned four tornadoes with peak winds of 110 mph in New York, the National Weather Service has confirmed.

Yes, there were tornadoes in the Hudson Valley Tuesday, and it's entirely possible that the Tri-State area experienced a tornado outbreak. So far, the National Weather Service has determined that were there eight confirmed tornadoes that touched down in New York and Connecticut Tuesday. There were three storm-related deaths in the Hudson Valley and two in Connecticut.
Long Island was spared the worst of the storms, with only minor property damage reported locally.
The National Weather Service first confirmed an EF1 tornado touched down in the area near Kent, Putnam County, with estimated peak winds of 110 mph.

Hudson Valley Weather said that the NWS Binghamton Storm Survey is still going on, but so far there’s been no report from Sullivan County, where a tornado was suspected to have touched down.
There was other destructive weather in the Hudson Valley that, according to the NWS, didn’t measure up to tornadoes, even though they might have felt like it.
The NWS said there was a microburst in the area near North Salem, Westchester County. It was determined that there were estimated winds gusts of 80 mph, resulting in approximately 250 yards of downed trees.
Besides the two confirmed tornadoes in Putnam County, there was a confirmed macroburst near Kent with maximum wind speeds of 80-90 mph. It impacted a swath of about 3 miles in width and 4 miles in length in the Cherry Hill area.

It was determined that an EF1 tornado with estimated peak winds of 110 mph touched down. It moved along a 9.5 mile path between Beacon Falls and Hamden. There were numerous uprooted trees along the path.

The most recent ones confirmed are an EF1 in the Winstead area and another in the Barkhamsted Reservoir area of Connecticut. The latter’s EF scale level has not been determined, nbcconnecticut.com said.
A tornado outbreak is determined by the number of confirmed tornados in a particularly region related to a specific thunderstorm system. NY Metro Weather said, with the confirmation of eight tornadoes, the severe weather the Hudson Valley and Connecticut experienced could unofficially qualify as an outbreak.
