Commack Men Rescued By Smithtown Bay Constables After Capsizing
The father and son's boat flipped over in the Nissequogue River, exposing them to freezing water before they were stranded on a marsh.

SMITHTOWN, NY — A Commack father and son were saved from the frigid waters of the Nissequogue River on Saturday afternoon by Smithtown bay constables, according to a Town of Smithtown news release.
A 14-foot Lone Star duck-hunting boat belonging to Fred Maser, 72, and Kevin Maser, 46, capsized, dumping them in the river at 1:07 p.m. Saturday. The Smithtown Department of Public Safety park rangers, bay constables and Suffolk County police received the call.
Park Ranger Brendan Dennihy responded to Kings Park Bluff minutes later, and he was able to find the men. The Masers had drifted south and were stranded on a marsh island. Dennihy provided details to bay constables Blake Gifford and Carmine Aro who were arriving in a patrol vessel. The constables got the men on board.
